The Uvalde Foundation For Kids national nonprofit, formed in response to the May 2022 mass shooting has released an official statement, Wednesday morning, ahead of the planned release of those findings.
The Uvalde City Council convenes for a special meeting Thursday as Austin-area investigator Jesse Prado presents his independent investigation report into the Uvalde Police Department’s response to the Robb Elementary shooting on May 24, 2022.
"The foundation anticipates the results of the independent investigation into the Uvalde Police Departments response to the tragic shooting that took so many precious lives. Our anticipation centers however, not around the findings of the report.
We know what happened in Uvalde. Many heard the cries of dying children with their own ears. Mothers & Fathers - Family & community members waited for over an hour as their children were slaughtered and law enforcement, frozen in fear and confusion, did nothing. We do not need a report to tell us how many minutes went by before officers entered the classroom once filled with laughter and learning, covered in the blood of children. We need no report to tell us how the law enforcement chain of command & communication failed. We need no report to outline the damage the bullets caused as they tore through tiny bodies, once full of life. We need no report to outline the missed signs by law enforcement and mental health experts in intervening ahead of the incident. We need no report to tell us who failed. We know what happened in Uvalde. We will never forget.
What we do anticipate in the release of the report is, hopefully, a reignited drive in the American consciousness, in moms and dads, teachers, students, law enforcement, politicians & everyday citizens to do all we can to prevent another Uvalde, tomorrow. Will The findings of this report ignite aggressive action to end violence against our youth? That remains to be seen. The report, its findings and even any positive changes resulting from them will not bring those lost back.
But, will we use the findings to save lives? That is what we anticipate. That is what we hope for. Those lost at Uvalde deserve that legacy.
Those students of tomorrow, deserve that promise."
