National Nonprofit Responds To Iowa School Shooting
The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, a national nonprofit formed following the May 2022 school shooting In Uvalde, Texas; released Thursday morning that it's volunteer, "Critical Incident Response Teams," out of Texas are responding to
an active shooter situation in Perry, Iowa At Perry High School.
Foundation officials noted in the release that a 24 hour LIVE telephone & online mental health & crisis support line for STUDENTS & COMMUNITY members; manned by peer support and professional counselors, is now available at 888 685 8464. CHAPLAINCY & student peer support services are also being made available by the foundation..
Currently the foundation reports that the Perry Police Department confirmed there was an active shooting at Perry High School. A MercyOne Hospital spokesperson reported that victims from the high school are headed their way. The official could not confirm how many patients they were expecting to receive.
Police on scene believe it is no longer an active situation. Streets for several blocks are barricaded, dozens of law enforcement from across central Iowa were on scene and a medical helicopter was seen landing at the school at about 8:30 a.m.
The foundation, primarily focused on preventing & responding to incidents of school violence nationally; also responded to both the Michigan State University Shooting, the Allen Texas Mass Shooting as well as the Covenant School Shooting In Nashville, Tennessee.
Additionally, officials announced that their STOPNOW School Patrol Teams are also on stand by to support the School Communities with additional safety patrols and community engagement at this time. Officials say they are reaching out to Perry High School & Perry Community School District officials regarding these and additional support resources.
